David W. (Dave) Payne, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018 in Topeka, Kansas.
Wild man Davy Payne came screaming into this world on July 28, 1982 in Topeka, Kansas to proud parents Bill & Cathy (Green) Payne. Davy was raised on the Payne Family farm in Meriden, Kansas with dogs, cats, goats, siblings, grandparents, and cousins close by. He graduated from Jefferson West High School in 2001 to a cheering crowd and ecstatic family, who were honored to later send him to serve in the Air Force.
An inventor, fisherman, salesman, prankster, animal lover, and above all, dreamer. Though Dave's most cherished roles were as a son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.
Having never met a stranger, Dave was sure to greet you with a big smile and an offer to help. He was kind, thoughtful, and compassionate. He never shied away from hard work, and never met a job too big or small. At the end of the day, Dave relished in standing back to admire a job well done.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Victor and Marjorie Payne, and his faithful companions - Rocky, Rufus, Rowdy, and Bubba. He is remembered by his mother, Betty Payne, sister, Jill O'Connor, and brother, Jim (Mia) Payne. He lovingly held the title of "Most Fun Uncle" to Joseph, Jacob, Emily, and Jace, and leaves behind a big family who will miss him and his antics dearly.
A graveside memorial service and inurnment is planned for Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Meriden Cemetery, Condray St., Meriden, KS 66512. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66608.
Dave left this world as he lived in it - a wild man with a heart of gold. Shine on, you crazy diamond.
