David Alan Vicory

January 3, 1959 — July 5, 2018

David Alan Vicory, 59, lifelong resident of Topeka, Kansas died on July 5, 2018. David was born January 3, 1959 in Topeka, the son of Freeman and Lois Vicory.

David graduated from Topeka High School and Ottawa University. Following graduation, David worked at several radio stations as continuity producer, writer and on-air personality. He later worked for WIBW-AM/FM as Continuity Director/writer and at Core First Bank and Trust.

Early in life, David was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth, a neuromuscular disease from the Muscular Dystrophy family. For an outgoing young man, he was determined not to dwell on the negative. David worked, and often co-hosted for many years with WIBW-TV13's Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day Telethon. Because of his faithful service he received many awards including MDA's Personal Achievement Award for the State of Kansas. David was able to meet Jerry Lewis in person, a dream come true he'd had for many years.

He was a Life Member of the Sons of American Revolution. David attended First Lutheran Church where he was a baptized an confirmed member who later completed training as a Stephen Minister. Although bed ridden most of his later years of life, he never wavered in his Christian faith, witness and training. David was a private man who lived his life the best he could and would survive long past doctors expectations. He loved watching sports, meeting new people, giving help when able, sitting with nature and visiting with friends. He loved his family and had a love for dogs. He will be greatly missed by those who he loved and those that loved him.

David's father, Freeman Merrifield Vicory, preceded him in death. Survivors include his mother, Lois (Marshall) Vicory; his sister, Marsha Serk (Jerry); two brothers: William Vicory (Karen) and Jay Vicory (Sue); five nieces, four great-nephews and one great-niece.

Cremation is planned and a private memorial graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, 1234 Fairlawn, Topeka, KS 66604 or Muscular Dystrophy, 10550 Barkley #200. Overland Park, KS 66212.
