Dean Palmer, 70, of Wakarusa, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at his home.
He was born September 4, 1943 in Topeka, the son of Glenn H. and Florence M. (Buchanan) Palmer. He was a 1961 graduate of Auburn High School.
Mr. Palmer retired in 2002 from Consolidated Freightways, Topeka after 30 years of service in the trucking industry.
He was a member of Teamsters Local Union No 696 and the NRA.
Dean married Cheryl Lynn Spoering on January 7, 1967 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on February 16, 2010. Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly (James) Walker and Robyn Palmer; his grandchildren, McKenzie, Dylan and Tanner Walker and Alex, Emily and Austin Ditch; two brothers, Harry Palmer and Robert "Lee" (Judy) Palmer and many other beloved family and friends.
Dean loved fishing with his grandchildren, friends, and especially his partner in crime, Larry. He was an avid sports fan. Those who knew him appreciated his sense of humor and orneriness.
Honoring his request, Dean was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka. Burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, KS. The family will receive friends at the Auburn Civic Center, 1020 Washington Street, Auburn, KS from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 10. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Auburn Community Center, 121 W 11th St, Auburn, KS 66402 or to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, KS 66604.
