Dean Veltman, 88, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
He was born August 15, 1926 in Wakarusa, Kansas, the son of Herbert Burton and Edna M. (Porter) Veltman. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
Dean retired as an U.S. mail contractor after 30 years of service.
He was a Life-Member of Philip Billard VFW Post 1650 in Topeka.
Dean is survived by a son, Rick (Marlene) Veltman, Topeka; two daughters, Deborah Bloss, Topeka and Vickie (Pete) Chooncharoen, Auburn, KS; five grandchildren, Lucas (April) Veltman, Sherri Veltman, David (Azure) Chooncharoen, Steven (Lisa) Chooncharoen and Brian (Kristin) Chooncharoen; great-grandchildren, Devin and Cooper Veltman, Draden and Ashlynn Chooncharoen, Keaton and Brogan Chooncharoen and Camden Chooncharoen; and a step-great-grandson, Daniel Gifford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Floyd Veltman.
Dean and his brother Floyd raised goats and sheep for many years. Dean loved spending time with his family, traveling, attending State Fairs, mowing, playing cards, marbles, dominos and his cats. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Dean will lie in state after 3 p.m., Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m.
Graveside services with military honors conducted by Philip Billard VFW Post 1650 will be at 2 p.m., Monday, May 11, 2015 at the Yocum Cemetery, Wakarusa, KS (From Topeka, South on Old Highway 75, East on 101st Street for 2 ½ miles).
