Deborah Darlene Nichols

Deborah Darlene "Debbie" Fisher Nichols, 63, of Topeka, passed away September 14, 2014. She was born to Benjamin F. and Maude Darlene (Blankenship) Fisher on August 16, 1951 at Travis Air Force Base in California. Her father's career moved the family to many places including South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Nebraska and Canada. She graduated from Papillion-LaVista High School in Papillion, NE in 1969. She received her Practical Nursing license from Kaw Area Vo-Tech, Topeka, KS in 1991. Debbie was employed by the Colmery-O'Neil Veterans hospital at Topeka specializing in mental health care. She retired on May 30, 2014 following 13 years of service.

Debbie enjoyed reading, gardening, baking, picnics with her family, and above all else spending time with her grandchildren. She also had a great love for animals.

She is survived by her children, Dana and his wife Dawn Nichols, Nicole and her husband James Brandenburgh and Benjamin and his wife Clara Nichols; Grandchildren, Cody, Adam, Skylar, Aidan, Landon, Zoe and Logan; sister, Patricia Steube; and nieces and nephews.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents and her stepmother, Helen Jeannette Fisher.

Debbie's friends and family will be welcomed to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Lake Shawnee Shelter House #1 (west side of the lake). Inurnment will take place at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
