Debra Susan Gehrt

Debra (Debbie) Susan Gehrt, 67, of Topeka, KS, passed away peacefully on February 14th, after enjoying a good lunch and watching Hawaii 5-0 with her sister. 

Debbie was born on August 7th, 1957, to Jesse Floyd Jarvis and Myrna Maxine (Carver) Jarvis in Topeka, KS. She graduated from Proctor Hug Highschool in Nevada in 1976 and went on to study finance at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.

After graduating from Washburn with a degree in accounting she became an internal auditor with Federal Home Loan Bank. She worked for FHLB for over 30 years before leaving to work for the State of Kansas. She retired in 2022.

Debbie married Matthew Gehrt in 1981 at Ward Mead Park in Topeka. Prior to her marriage to Matt, Debbie had two daughters, Jennifer and Janiece Image. Debbie and Matt would later have their son James Gehrt. 

Debbie enjoyed volunteering. She was a board member for Ronald McDonald House for several years. She delivered Meals on Wheels for over ten years and loved visiting with the folks she delivered meals to. Her greatest passion was getting to spend time with all the animals while volunteering for Helping Hands Humane Society.

Debbie loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, listening to music, singing like she was practicing for the opera, Winnie-the-Pooh and tigers, too!

Debbie was predeceased by her father, mother, brothers David and Don, and her husband Matt. She is survived by sister Diana (Gerry), brother Doug (Laverne), her three children, grandchildren; Jacqueline, Shawn, Antonio, Danielle, E.J. and Sagan, great grandchildren; Ashlynn, Wren, and Nayeli, nieces, nephews, many loving cousins, family friends and a great fella that made her smile every day. 

The family will receive friends from beginning at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS, where a Celebration of Life will begin at 9:30 a.m.
