Debra S. Iwig, 72, of Tecumseh, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at a Topeka hospital. She was born April 13, 1952 in Lincoln, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Lois B. (Zachgo) Meitler.
Debra graduated from Sylvan Gove High School and attended NCK Tech in Beloit. She was employed by Kansas Power & Light for several years before retiring. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Debra married Steve R. Iwig on August 7, 1971 in Vesper, Kansas. He survives. Other survivors include children, Julie R. Preston of Lecompton, Tamala J. Iwig (Charles) of Grain Valley, Missouri, Thomas W. (Candice) Iwig of Tecumseh, Larry S. (Kathy) Iwig of Topeka, eight grandchildren, Forrest, Colleen, Brooke, Tristen, Sydney, Cale, Ethan and Laiken. Also surviving are nine siblings, Judy Werner, Daryl Meitler, Chuck Meitler, Linda Glisson, Vicki Wiles, DeAnn “Dee” Meitler, Donald Meitler, Cindy Miller and Danny Meitler.
Debra was preceded in death by five siblings, Alice Oller, Dick Meitler, Carolyn Gehring, Kathy Ashbaugh and Dean Meitler.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Debra will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Grace United Methodist Church, 2627 SW Western Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66611.
