Delmar L. Janovec, 96, of Holton, Kansas formerly of Edwardsville, KS, passed away August 5, 2016. He was born in Niobrara, Nebraska to Louis V. and Marie E. (Bauman) Janovec. He attended elementary school in the Sparta district and graduated from Niobrara High School in 1939.
Delmar served during WW II with the 498th "Falcons" bomb squadron of the Army Air Corp from May 1942 through October 1945. He married Charlotte A. Dotter on January 31, 1948 at Elk Point, South Dakota. He worked in highway construction as a heavy equipment operator and retired from Tomahawk Construction Company in 1992. Delmar was a member of the 101 Operating Engineers of Kansas City, MO, the American Legion Post 0044 of Holton, KS and the VFW Post 4834 of Niobrara, NE. He especially enjoyed going to sales-auctions of all types, buying small equipment that needed repair work, fixing the equipment, and then reselling to individuals.
Delmar is survived by his wife Charlotte; two sons: Delmar and Richard; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his eight siblings: Vlasta, Lloyd, Mary, May, Elsie, Thelma, Leonard and Clarence.
A graveside service will be held August 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Prairie Home Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 0044, 926 W. 6th Street, Holton, KS 66436.
