Delmer K. Carnes, 73, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born September 24, 1942 in Hastings, Michigan, the son of Homer and Florence (Glaskill) Carnes.
Delmer graduated from Eastern High School in Lansing, Michigan in 1960. Delmer was an Air Force Veteran. He resided in Topeka since 1960. Delmer was employed by the Department of Corrections where he retired in 1996. He was a member of Topeka Baptist Church.
Delmer married Dorothy M. Fincham on November 9, 1962 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include their three children, Jeanette (Barry) Weese, Tami (Vince) Foster of Topeka and Angela (Todd) Smith of Ankeny, Iowa, seven grandchildren, Brandon and Alexis Weese, Cole and Cody Foster, Autumn, Adysyn and Anabel Smith and two siblings, Gene Carnes and Shirley Williams. Delmer was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Abigail Smith and six siblings.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2015 at Topeka Baptist Church. Graveside committal services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Manhattan, Kansas. Delmer will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
