Delores "Dee" Tappan

Delores “Dee” J. Tappan, 82, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Brewster Place.
She was born August 23, 1941, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Sam and Flossie (Curry) Butler. She graduated from Larned High School in Larned, Kansas.
Dee married Arlen F. Tappan on August 16, 1975, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2019.
Dee was a proud mom, and extended her love to many other children through her home daycare. Later in life, Dee worked for Commerce Bank & Trust for 15 years, retiring in 2004, to help care for her grandchildren.
She was a member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, of Topeka for many years, as well as the American Business Women’s Association.
Dee loved spending time with her family, spoiling her grandchildren and attending her children & grandchildren’s events. Throughout her life, she enjoyed socializing with friends, reading, dining out (most often for Mexican food), iced coffee, spending time in the sun, gardening, pulling weeds, bowling, square dancing, tap class with friends, and collecting a variety of items for those she loved. Dee really loved shopping.
Survivors include sons, Scott Tappan and Robert (Nicole) Tappan; daughter, Sammie Abel, all of Topeka; step-sons, Jon Tappan, of West Milton, OH and Jeff (Karen) Tappan, of Topeka; grandchildren, Christine, Benjamin, Randi, Emily, Allison, Gentry, Carter, Russell, and Natalee, 7 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Virginia Butler, and nieces, Kim and Cheryl Butler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arlen; brother, Jim Butler, and many dearly loved pets that she (and eventually Arlen) spoiled rotten.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene (The Woods at Wanamaker), 3501 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka.
