Delores Jeanette (Aaron) Leupold, 85, of Topeka passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at her home surrounded by family.
"Dee" Leupold was born February 18, 1931 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Alford L. and Vera (Leese) Aaron. She graduated from Topeka's Highland Park High School (Class of 1949) and later that year married Harvey H. Campbell, a young Air Force officer, in Topeka. Their Air Force life together included a 4-year tour of duty in Madrid, Spain in the late 1950s. They relocated to Seattle, Washington in 1966 and divorced in 1974. For several years thereafter, Dee owned a hair salon and sold real estate in the Seattle area before returning to Topeka. In 1985, Dee married Richard M. Leupold (a retired FAA Air Traffic Controller and fellow Highland Park High School graduate, Class of 1950). They lived in Oklahoma from 1985 until the early 1990s when they relocated to Topeka, where they remained until their deaths.
Dee's survivors include her son, Grant L. "Roy" (Jacqueline Voss) Campbell of Laporte, Colorado; three sisters, Vita Tucker of Burlingame, Kansas, and Gayle Aaron and Lynn (Alan) Runyan, both of Loveland, Colorado; three grandchildren, Leslie (Douglas) Roudybush of Topeka, Kara (Alan) McKeage of Renton, Washington, and Clifton Campbell of Albany, New York; two great-grandsons; son-in-law Paul Leduc of St. Cloud, Minnesota; and 5 step-children Teresa J. Leffers of Dunedin, Florida, Cynthia S. (Norm) Lippelt of Aurora, Illinois, Thomas Scott (Laura) Leupold of Brumley, Missouri, Richard M. "Rick" Leupold of Tucson, Arizona, and Patrice L. "Petey" Leupold of Chicago, Illinois; and eight step-grandchildren, Kelly and Kari McCue of Aurora, Illinois, Hannah and Maggie Leupold of Brumley, Missouri, LeAnn Robison of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Kassie Daniels, Brittany Leupold, and Marissa Leupold, all of Post Falls, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, her step-mother, Bonna Aaron, her sister, Peggy Tolbert, and her daughter, Nancy LeDuc.
Dee was an avid gardener, craftsperson, and seamstress whose greatest passions included quilting and growing flowers. Her homemade Christmas cakes and candies were famous among her friends and family members. She was also well known for her selflessness and compassion in caring for elderly friends and relatives, and for her love for her 10-year-old Dachshund, Sophie.
Dee's wish was to be cremated and no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
