Deloris I. Blankingship, 92, Topeka, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018.
Deloris was born January 1, 1926 in Grinnell, the daughter of John E. and Crystal I. (Hoover) Christenberry. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1943.
She was employed for 13 years in food service for USD-501 and 15 years with the USD-450 School district retiring in 1988.
She was a member of Highland Heights Christian Church, having served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher and a member of Sonflower Emmaus Group. She was also a member of Shawnee County Retired Cooks Association and Primetimers Bowling League.
She was an exceptional seamstress, upholsterer, musician and cake decorator.
Deloris married Evert Blankingship on July 5, 1944 in Topeka. He died November 14, 1993. Survivors include son, Edward (Brenda) Blankingship, Perry, Patricia Peterson, Henderson, NV; 4 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Crystal Hill, Berryton; and brothers, Cecil (Jean) Christenberry, and Melbern (Shirley)Christenberry, all of Topeka. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Michael Blankingship.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota. A reception will follow the service. Private interment will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Deloris will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2018 at the funeral home.
