Dennis C. Kurtz, Sr.

Dennis C. Kurtz, Sr., 65, Topeka, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Midland Hospice House.

Dennis was born February 16, 1947 in Atchison, the son of Frank and Grace (Moore) Kurtz. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1965 and from St. Mary College in 1979.

He served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1965 to 2006, retiring with the rank Master Sergeant. He was activated at Ft. Carson, Colorado during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a Systems Analyst for the U.S. Coast Guard Payroll Center in Topeka for the past 5 years, and had previously worked for the U.S.D.A. and Farmland Industries.

He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.

Dennis married Grace Irene Mallin on March 22, 1969. She passed away on December 28, 1994. He married Barbara Ann Porter on July 25, 1999. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2007. He married Marj Clark on October 9, 2009. She survives.

Also surviving are Dennis and Grace's children; Ron (Linda) Kurtz, Topeka, Reverend Frank A. Kurtz, St. Louis, MO, Don (Laurie) Kurtz, Manhattan, Dennis C. (Erica) Kurtz, Jr., Portland, OR, Jennifer Kurtz, Kansas City, MO; granddaughters, Madelynn, Morgan, and Ella Kurtz. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn "Nadine" Ford; brother in law, Gerald Ford; and nephew, Terry Lee Ford.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Topeka. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Atchison. Visitation will be at the church from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday followed by a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church or the American Heart Association. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
