Dennis W. Ruckert, 71, Topeka, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014.

He was born in Herington to Harold and Patricia Ruckert on December 7, 1943. Dennis graduated from Chase High School and received a B.S. in electrical engineering from Kansas State University. He worked for Southwestern Bell his entire career and retired as an Area Manager in Network Engineering. Dennis was a member of the Euclid Lodge in Lyndon, Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies, Arab Shrine, K-State Alumni Association, and AT&T Pioneers.

Dennis married Margaret "Margie" Mills on December 2, 1967. Margie preceded him in death on December 22, 1990. He married Merlene Burgess on January 20, 2001. She survives. Dennis is also survived by his daughter, Karen Ruckert, Washington, D.C.; son, Michael Ruckert, Manhattan; stepsons, Chad (Randi) Peed, Baldwin and Jason Peed, Prague, the Czech Republic; stepdaughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Hill, Berryton; stepgrandchildren, Tyler, Austin, and Adrian; and sister, Margaret "Peggy" (Jonathan) Olsen, Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Yvonna "Vonnie" Schilling.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Mount Hope Chapel. The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army, the Shriners Hospital for Children, and the Margaret Mills Ruckert Memorial Scholarship at Kansas State University.
