Denny B. Denny B. "Doc" Holmes, 92, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 30 at the Colmery-O'Neil Veterans Hospital.
He was born June 3, 1913 in Lebanon, VA, the son of William W. and Maude Boardwine Holmes.
He served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1961. After retiring from the Air Force, he went to work at Topeka High School as a cook. He was a very devoted father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He married Clarice V. Fern in 1936 in Lebanon, VA. They later divorced.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
Survivors include three sons; Bickley Holmes and his wife Martha of Topeka, Darl Holmes and his finace Vickie of Topeka and Cooper B. Holmes and his wife Dee of Emporia; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Mr. Holmes will lie in state after 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 2 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, August 3 in Mount Hope Cemetery.
