Dianne Kay Schmitz, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully January 4, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on December 14, 1942, in Axtell, Kansas, Dianne exemplified the qualities of warmth, nurturing, and dedication throughout her life.
She is survived by her loving family: her children, Terry (Shirley) Schmitz, Debra (Albert) Mack, and Mark (Kevin Hill) Schmitz; her six grandchildren, Terry Jr., Kathleen, Marc, James, Alexander, and Haydn; and her six great-grandchildren. Dianne is also remembered by her sisters, Janice (Floyd) Ragsdale, Pam (Tom) Young, and Karen (Vern) Buessing.
Dianne was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Larry Schmitz, whom she married on December 2, 1961, sharing more than six decades of love and partnership and her daughter, Jamie Schmitz.
Dianne's lifelong commitment to caring for others was evident as she made it a priority to create a warm home filled with support and laughter. She dedicated herself to raising her children alongside the managing of a household that was both orderly and filled with joy.
In addition to her nurturing spirit towards her own children, Dianne also babysat children in her home and later worked in publishing and retail. Her interest in gardening and growing flowers became a point of pride. Her hobbies brought beauty into her life and the lives of those around her. Her passion for creating a beautiful, warm, and welcoming environment was reflected in the way she regularly rearranged her home, ensuring every item had its place.
A proud baton twirler in high school, Dianne carried a sense of humor and a joyful outlook into her adulthood, sharing many good laughs with family and friends. Known for being slow to anger, she faced life’s challenges with grace.
Dianne’s proudest accomplishments include the nurturing of her home and her children, the care of her vibrant flowers, and the treasured moments spent with her grandchildren, whom she adored. She shared countless joyful experiences with them at her home, becoming a cornerstone of their lives.
Dianne leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support for her family, who will continue to cherish her memory. Her impact on their lives will be felt for generations to come
