Dick E. Freed, 75, of Topeka, was born on October 7, 1931 to Eric and Mamie Freed in Gowrie, Iowa. He grew up on a farm. He graduated from High School in Gowrie, Iowa in 1949. Dick went to eternal rest in Topeka on Sunday, October 29th, 2006. He died from a long battle of respiratory complications. He served in the U.S. Air Force, working in air traffic and radar control. As an Air Traffic Control Technician, he was cited for two million dollars in aircraft saves during his tenure. He served in the Korean conflict. He was a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion. He was married to his wife of 54 years, Marguerrite (Peggy) Freed in Yuma, Arizona. He owned and operated Freed's Truck and Auto in Topeka for several years. He retired from Frito Lay in 1994. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry, his parents and his sister, Lyona. Survivors are his wife and beloved children and their spouses: daughter, Linda and Bernie Koss, son Curtis and Tammy Freed and son, Richard and Leeann Freed, all residing in Topeka. He had 10 grandchildren, Shawn, Michelle, Christine, Heather, Megan, Jason, Jared, Jordan, Don and Amber. He had 9 great-grandchildren: Larissa, Zachary, Anna, Jimmy, Darin, Hannah, Cody, Jenna and John Paul. He also has a sister, Phyllis Mylenbusch and many nieces and nephews. He loved to fish, and caught large tuna off the coast of California and King Salmon in Juneau, Alaska. He also loved to feed birds. He was known as
