Don A. Coleman, 80, Topeka died Saturday, August 6, 2005 at St. Francis Health Center. He was born May 10, 1925 in Casey, Illinois the son of Lloyd and Ethel Gwynn Coleman.
Don grew up in Indianapolis Indiana. He entered the Army Air Force at age 17 where he served in the 8th Air Force in England during World War II. He served in the Air Force until 1966 at which time he retired while stationed at Forbes Field. He worked for Seymour Foods as a design engineer. The last few years Don was self employed, he spent his time repairing church organs in the Topeka area.
Music was always a large part of his life. He managed bands in the Air Force. He played the trombone in the Cambridge Symphony and the Topeka Symphony. He managed the Menninger Swing Band and also played in the Santa Fe and Marshall Bands. The last years of his life he came to enjoy dancing.
He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge #90 A.F. & A.M., and the Arab Shrine Temple of Topeka.
He married Doreen Maud York, January 17, 1946 in Northampton, England. She died June 11, 2002. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Coleman.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Coleman, Phnom Penh, Cambodia; David Coleman, Topeka; and Richard Coleman, Topeka; and three grandchildren.
