Don V. Lane, 67, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. He was born June 15, 1943 in Grand Junction, Colorado, the son of Raymond and Elsie Lane.
He graduated from high school in Beatrice, Nebraska. He resided in Topeka for most of his life. He was employed by Jostens Printing and Publishing for 41 years before retiring. After his retirement, he became a paraprofessional at Berryton Elementary School for the past eight years. He was loved by all who knew him. Don was a member of Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. He was a happy man. His answer to, "How are you?" was always, "Just Great." He spoke well of everyone and was slow to anger. He was a great example to all the people he met. Words can't express the loss felt for Don by all who knew him, but especially his family.
Don married Rita Johnston. She preceded him in death on February 14, 1995. They had two sons whom survive, Kevin and Scott, both of Topeka. There are six grandchildren and a great-grandson from this marriage. He later married Patty Craig. He adopted her daughter, Elizabeth. The three of them traveled to Uralsk, Kazakhstan and adopted a brother and sister, who are Ozzie and Doni. Also surviving are his brother, Raymond R. Bishop and his sister, Rachel Johnston. Don was a multiple organ donor.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
