Donald Neil "Don" Gordon, 79, of Carbondale, KS, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018, due to complications of heart surgery.

He was born March 29, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Albert David and Louise (Maxwell) Gordon and step-mother, Opal (Reno) Gordon. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Max Gordon.

Don married Nancy S. Wilting on April 26, 1963 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Kimber (Robert) Budden of Ozawkie, KS and Brenda Colvin of Kansas City, KS; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Trevor) Tast and their daughters, Cecilia and Charlotte of New Braunfels, TX, Ryan (Janice) Streeter and their daughter, MacKenzie of Tonganoxie, KS, Joshua and Christopher Colvin of Lenexa, KS; his niece, Debra (Ken Tripkos) Gordon of Topeka, KS; a brother-in-law, William (Donna) Wilting and families of DeSoto, Baldwin City, and Lawrence, KS; and other extended family members.

Don was a 1957 graduate of Topeka High School. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Peterson Destroyer Escort, being honorably discharged in 1963. Don was employed by the AT&SF / BNSF Railway from 1963 until retiring in 2001.

He volunteered as a mentor in Junior Achievement, sponsored by the AT&SF Railway and also served as Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop No. 58 of Carbondale, KS.

Don loved bowling and was pretty good at it, achieving a score of 300 as well as a high series of 700. He served as secretary of several bowling leagues. In addition to bowling, he enjoyed playing golf, volleyball, softball, and participating in Senior Olympics.

During their 55 years of marriage Don and Nancy square danced with the Kountry Kousins and the Swinging Squares Dance Clubs. They loved to travel and visited all 50 states together. They are members of the Working Sams Camping Club.

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka. The celebration will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a time of sharing memories. A reception will follow until 3:00 p.m.
