Donald L. Schafer

Donald L. Schafer, 65, of Topeka passed away June 14, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS. He was born in LaCrosse, Kansas on September 3, 1949 to Henry Schafer and Esther Herrman Schafer.

Don was married to Laura Battin in Topeka on April 20, 1974. She survives of the home. Other survivors include daughter, Nicole Cook, and granddaughter, Alivia Cook of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Schafer and son-in-law, Shawn Cook.

Don worked numerous years in the grocery business, including as produce manager at the south A&P store in Topeka. He retired from USD 450 Shawnee Heights School District as the warehouse manager in central services.

Don enjoyed gardening with Alivia and watching her play basketball and other sports. He had a passion for antique vehicles and classic cars and loved to go to car shows. He greatly enjoyed the hours spent restoring an antique pickup.

A memorial service will be held Monday, June 29 at Dove Cremation and Funeral Services at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Chaplain Terry Frizzell will officiate. Inurnment will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society of Topeka, the Topeka Rescue Mission, or the American Diabetes Association.
