Donald LeRoy Keim, 77, beloved husband, father, and friend, returned to his heavenly home on August 27, 2015 after a valiant battle with cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Don was born to Roy and Leona (Wells) Keim, in Topeka, Kansas on October 10, 1937. He lived in the Topeka and Overbrook areas the majority of his life.
Don attended St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from Highland Park High School, both in Topeka, Kansas.
Don married Bonnie Jo Maichel, on December 12, 1967 in Miami, Oklahoma. They celebrated nearly 48 years together. He was blessed with a large group of family and friends all of whom love him and will miss him deeply.
Don was a Marine in Company "C", 7th Maintenance Battalion, 1st Marine Division (Reinforcement) Fleet Marine Force, stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. In 1956, he was part of the Second Battalion, Platoon 296 in San Diego during boot camp. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal during his service and was Honorably discharged in 1958. Semper Fi!
Don was a Journeyman Electrician, and a 53 year member of IBEW 226 in Topeka, Kansas. He was owner of Keim Electric in Overbrook, Kansas for many years. In addition, he and his wife owned Keim Kountry a Christmas tree farm in Overbrook, Kansas.
Don is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his four children: Cindy Keim (Ozawkie, KS), Donald Keim, II (Denver, CO), Derrick Keim (Anthony, KS), and Kathy Keim Wettengel (Great Bend, KS). His Grandchildren: Lauren, Daniel, Matthew, Monica, Kenneth, AJ, Nick, Rachel, Ashley, JD, Jenny, Emilynn and Andrew. He has 11 Great Grandchildren, with two more currently on the way.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Patricia "Patty" Cochran; his parents; his grandson, James Everett Fisher; and granddaughter, Mary Keim.
At his request, he was cremated, and a private interment will be held at a later date. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at 1pm, Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 4 Corners Steakhouse and Lounge located at 15745 S. Topeka Avenue, Scranton, KS.
