Donald Lew Blaylock, 80, lifelong resident of Topeka, passed away March 22, 2011 at his home. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on October 11, 1930 to Frank and Elma (Sumner) Blaylock. He served his country in the Army during WWII as a supply person and was a member of the Blinded Veterans Association of Kansas. He was employed by the State of Kansas as a maintenance person until he was forced to retire due to his health.
He loved being with Fannie as a constant companion. He loved going to church, riding, and traveling with his daughter and grandchildren. He loved to listen to his daughter and grandsons sing and play the piano and organ. He had a fondness for going to garage sales, sitting on the porch or under the tree and drinking coffee. He loved his dog Sadie.
He is survived by his daughter, LaVonzelle Brown, Topeka, KS; son, Frank Brown, Duncanville, TX; sister, Dorothy Iverson, Wheatridge, CO; 2 grandsons, Tysean Broils and his wife Erica of Topeka, and Tyyuan Broils and his wife Toya of Waco, TX; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 24 years, Fannie Brown, his parents, Frank and Elma Blaylock, and 6 siblings.
His "Going Home Celebration" will be held Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at The House of the Lord Church. Visitation will be held at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service on Wednesday evening, March 30, from 6-8 p.m.
