Donald Gene "Don" Martin, 83, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021.
He was born January 18, 1937, in Glasco, Kansas, the son of George and Katherine "Irene" (Downey) Martin. He was a 1955 graduate of Glasco High School. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Don was employed as a Federal Meat Inspector for the USDA for 35 years until retiring in February of 2000. After retirement he worked for Stormont-Vail Hospital.
He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Topeka.
Don married Louise Girard on December 9, 1958 in St. Joseph, Kansas. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include six children, Cindy (Curtis) Hooper-Bears of Topeka, Don (Becky) Martin of Topeka, Kathy (Dave) Sachs of Topeka, Debra (Victor) Luling of Carmel, IN, Mike (Faith) Martin of Topeka and Mae Martin of Topeka; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joseph Martin in 1961; and three brothers, Richard, Dennis and Darrel; and his sister, Deanna.
Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A private Memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, Topeka. Private inurnment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Topeka. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
