Donald R. Hughes

Donald R. Hughes, 71, of Berryton, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Stormont-Vail hospital. He was born on December 2, 1934 in Topeka, the son of Edna D. Hughes. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1954 and attended Baker University. He was an Army veteran. Don was an electrician and was a member of I.B.E.W. Local No. 226. He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90 AF&AM and Scottish Rite Bodies. Don married Beverly J. Hansel on September 30, 1956 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include their four children, Shari Hughes, Gayla Regenold, Donald R. Hughes, II, and Kimberly Gillett, eight grandchildren and three sisters, Virginia Szabo, Karen Hughes and Lynda Bingham. Don will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Auburn Cemetery. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Shriner's Hospitals for Children c/o Arab Temple, 1305 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612 or the Berryton United Methodist Church Building Fund, 7010 S.E. Berryton Rd., Berryton, KS. 66409.
