Donald M. Shurtz

Donald Shurtz, 91, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at a local care center.

Don was born October 21, 1930 in Beloit, the son of Melvin and Virginia (Mead) Shurtz.

He graduated from Beloit High School and Kansas University with a degree in Fine Arts.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a commercial artist, beginning with WIBW and later for Patterson Advertising; where he held various positions, retiring in 1990 as the President and CEO.

Don married Beverly Jeanne Wilson on June 7, 1953 in Beloit. She died December 23, 2018. Survivors include their children, Ronald (Patricia) Shurtz, Steven (Margaret) Shurtz, Vicki (Ronald) Harding; 5 grandchildren, Mike Harding, Craig Harding, Crystal Shirley, Andrea Ruff, Nicole Vaughn; and 10 great-grandchildren, Jordan Shurtz-Napier, Tyler Shurtz, Haylea Ruff, Austin Ruff, Elias Vaughn, Peyton Vaughn, Walker Shirley, Ciera Harding, Roenick Selby, Eve Selby. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road on Tuesday preceding the Graveside service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
