Donald L. White, 85, of Topeka, passed away Monday, October 17, 2005 at a local care facility.
He was born April 13, 1920 in Melvern, the son of Ernest W. and Grace Lumsden White.
He attended Plymouth Grade School near Melvern. He served in the United States Navy during WW II. After being discharged he farmed and worked various jobs around the Topeka area. He retired from the State of Kansas Highway Department after 17 years of service. He was an avid woodworker and gardener.
He married Hilda Fashion, they later divorced. He then married Ruth Yockey on April 11, 1953 in Topeka. She preceded him in death in September, 1986. He was also preceded in death by a son, John White.
Survivors include: Donald L. White, Jr. of Topeka; Mrs. Lucille Speed, Bettendorf, IA; Mary Reed of Prairie Village, KS; Richard Greeve, Denison, KS; Bill Greeve and Dale Greeve both of Topeka; Louise Schmitendorf, Lyndon, KS.; 24 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren.
Mr. White will lie in state after 9:00 A.M. Thursday, October 20 at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home with burial to follow in Westlawn Memorial Gardens.
