Donna Jean Root, 91, of Topeka, passed away Monday, October 28, 2019.
She was born August 27, 1928, in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of George F. and Mabel A. (Crawford) Shields.
Donna was employed by J.C. Penny Department Store in Topeka until retiring.
She married LaVerne F. Rogers. He preceded her in death in July 13, 1968. She married Leslie Root. They divorced. Survivors include five children, Billy (Diane) Rogers of Loon Lake, WA, Tondra (Jerry) Overstreet of Topeka, Jana (Allen) Murphy of Topeka, Jerry (Mary) Rogers of Berryton, KS and Kristie Root of Topeka; a step-son, Rick Root of Wichita; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Leslie W. "Little Les" Root, Jr.; two sisters, Maxine Sheilds and Georgia Mae Spiker; and a brother, George Shields.
Donna enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the outdoors, crocheting, gardening, canning, cooking and loved animals.
Honoring Donna's request, cremation is planned. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka.
