DonnaLee Olson, 91, formerly of Dwight, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, Wednesday February 26, 2014. DonnaLee was born December 27, 1922, in the family home in Geary County KS, the daughter of Fred T. and Louisa (Morgan) Brown.
She grew up on the family farm in Geary County and graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1941. After high school, she taught in a one room school house. On October 8, 1942, she married Walter Wayne "Windy" Olson. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before Windy preceded her in death April 12, 1993. DonnaLee was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family, children, grand-children and great-grandchildren and extended family. Her retirement years were filled with family, friends and gardening. Her flowers brought joy to all. DonnaLee was very active in the community serving in: American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Dwight Presbyterian church as elder and Sunday School teacher, Dwight Library board member, and as a Dwight 4-H Club Leader.
Survivors include: four siblings, Russell of Salina, Max of Dwight, Audrey of Junction City, Karen (Galen) of Alta Vista; her children, Sandra (Barry) of Topeka, Kathy (Bill) of Towanda, Richard of Herrington, Debra (John) of Olathe; six grand-children, Jessica (Eric) of Virginia, Nathan (Theresa) of Olathe, Sara of El Dorado, Danielle (Brian) of Topeka, Rachel of Overland Park, Hannah of Olathe, and two great-grandchildren; Ashlynn and Avery.
A memorial service will be held at the Dwight Presbyterian Church, Dwight, Kansas, on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Refreshments will be provided following the service.
