Dora "Darlene" Kelley, 85, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016.
She was born on April 18, 1931 to James O. and Juanita B. (Meeker) Warren at Eskridge, KS. She was a graduate of Eskridge High School. She received a BA in Teaching and a Master's in Education at Emporia Teacher's College.
After graduating, she moved to Hawaii where she taught school. She served as a music teacher at Dover, Eskridge and Harveyville Schools and later taught for USD 501, teaching at Stout Elementary in Topeka, retiring after 30 plus years as an educator.
She was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church in Topeka where she sang in the choir and participated in the bell choir.
On October 4, 1957, she married Billy C. Kelley in Honolulu, Hawaii. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2008. Darlene is survived by three children, Karl Kelley and his wife, Cindy of Rossville, KS, Kay Usrey and her husband, Mike of Topeka and Janet Kelley of Topeka; six grandchildren, Sarah Usrey (Jesse) and Sheryl Usrey (Kenny), Haley and Dalton Kelley and Lauryn and Jaxson C. Kelley; and eight great-grandchildren, Aaron, Xavier, Jayden, Jacob, Jaxon, Eileen, Emma and Kaylee; a brother, James Warren and his wife, Jeri of Copley, OH; and a brother-in-law, C. Leigh Johnson of Chandler, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Laura Elaine Johnson.
Darlene was an avid Royals Fan and enjoyed KU Basketball. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., June 6, 2016 at Crestview United Methodist Church, 2245 SW Eveningside Dr, Topeka, KS 66614. Family will receive friends at the church on Sunday evening, June 5, 2016 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Private family inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
