Dora Viola Fincher passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kansas, where she had resided since August 2009. She was born November 19, 1915, in Bradley, Arkansas to R.B. and Theora (Land) Spence. Viola spent much of her adult life in Poteau, Oklahoma, and moved to Kansas in 2003.
Viola is survived by her son, Robert and his wife, Jo Ann of Haughton, Louisiana; daughters-in-law, June Fincher, Garnett, Kansas and Betty Fincher, Tecumseh, Kansas. Other survivors include sisters, Verna Alderson, Atlanta, Texas, Lillian Bell, Ft. Worth, Texas, seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James J. "Joe" Fincher in 2003, after 70 years of marriage. Viola was also preceded in death by her sons, Jim and Gene; sisters, Pearl Westbrook, Irene Dodson, Katherine Spence, and brother, R.B. Spence.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 2, at Dove Cremation and Funeral Service, 4020 S.W. 6th, Topeka, Kansas. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Penwell Gabel Cemetery.
