Doris A. English McClellan stepped on a rainbow Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005. She was at home with her family. There will be a time of remembrance today at 209 S.W. Edgewood Ave., in Topeka. She was born May 9, 1920, in Barrett, Minn., to Agnes Tonman and Earl English. She graduated from Minneapolis School of Business. She worked in Washington, D.C., for a U.S. senator from New Jersey before joining the War Damage Commission in 1944. She was stationed in Manila, Philippines, where she met and married Capt. Lloyd C. McClellan, a founder of Cathay Pacific Airways, on July 26, 1947, in St. John s Cathedral, Hong Kong, China. They remained abroad and traveled extensively in their airplane, the Miss Hong Kong, before returning to the states in 1950. They settled in Topeka in the late 1950s, where Doris retired from the state of Kansas in 1990. She is survived by two sisters, Evelyn and Alice; four daughters, Abbie, Nancy, Martha and Patricia; and five grandchildren.
