Doris E. Hammel, 83, Lecompton (formerly of Bonner Springs and Manhattan, KS) passed away at her residence on Thurs., Dec. 11, 2008.
Doris was born on Sept. 22, 1925 in Wheaton, KS, the daughter of Edward and Elsie Teske.
She married Chester "Chet" Falk on March 19,1946. He preceded her in death July 28, 1953. Doris later married Bernard "Bernie" Hammel on Aug. 7, 1955. They recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.
She was a graduate of Onaga High School.
Doris was employed for twenty-three years at Inter-State Federal Savings and Loan in Bonner Springs, KS retiring in 1987.
She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, most recently, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Topeka, KS.
Her hobbies included fishing, sewing and cooking.
She is survived by her husband, "Bernie"; two daughters, Cheryl Charleston (John); Nancy Pembleton (Steve); two sons, Dean Falk (Debbie) and Bradley Hammel (Glenda); eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laura Persell and Rosella Peter (Pete); three brothers, Galen Teske; Alvin Teske and Merle Teske.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd Teske and sister, Virgie Falk.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sat., Dec. 13 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3625 SW Wanamaker Rd. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in St. Luke Lutheran North Cemetery, Wheaton, KS.
