Doris M. Martinson

Doris Marguerite Martinson, 92, Overland Park, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park.

She was born Dec. 5, 1914 in Industry, KS, the daughter of Edward and Winifred Bowen Exley. She moved with her family to Abilene in 1916, and to Topeka in 1919. She lived in Shawnee Mission, Johnson County for over 60 years.

Mrs. Martinson attended Gage Park Grade School and graduated from Topeka High School. She was baptized in the Evangelical Church in Industry.

Doris loved cookie and cake decorating, photography, sewing, reading, gardening, journaling, writing poetry, decorating the home for the holidays and special events at the Senior Center. She loved flowers, bird watching and doing anything with the love of her life "Charles".

She married Charles Alfred Martinson, Jr. on Oct. 10, 1936 in Topeka. He died Oct. 28, 1975.

Survivors include her children, Patricia Lynn Martinson of Mission, Karen Sue Gillespie and husband, David of Riverside, OH, Charles Alfred Martinson III and wife, Chantal of Merriam, Gail Ann Houghtaling and husband, Wayde of Manhattan, Cheryl Kay Brown and husband, Jim of Longmont, CO, and Dale Everett Martinson and wife, Marlea of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Station #1 Firefighters Association, or Garden Terrace at Overland Park, and sent in care of the funeral home, 4020 SW 6th Ave, Topeka 66606.
