Doris O. Pellegrini

Doris O. Pellegrini, 93, of Lawrence, Kansas, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living. She was born October 4, 1928 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the daughter of Harry O. and Alice (Rakentine) Carlock.
Doris graduated from Park Ridge High School in Park Ridge, New Jersey. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Doris loved reading, painting, gardening, the New Jersey shore, her friendships, and her dog Penny, as well as travel, especially frequent trips to Italy. She embraced adventure, from moving to Libya as a newlywed to going to a Rolling Stones concert at the age of 54.
Doris married Adolfo N. Pellegrini, M.D. in 1953. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael E. Pellegrini, on July 23, 2015 and her son-in-law, Giorgio Bolis, in 2011.
Survivors include children: Linda Pellegrini Bolis of Pennington, New Jersey, Sandra Pellegrini of Lawrence and Robert Pellegrini of Senigallia, Italy; grandchildren: Nadia Bolis of Kensington, California, Daniel Bolis of Pennington, New Jersey, and Joseph Hawker of Lawrence; her brother, Harry Carlock; and son-in-law Morgan Askin of Kensington, California.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka and be announced at some point this summer. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Attn. Memorial Donations, 520 8th Ave., 7th Floor, New York, New York 10018.
