Dorothea Mae (Ross) Eikenberry, of Topeka, went home to be with The Lord Friday, January 18, 2013. Dorothea was born to Charles H. and Lillian B. (Morgan) Ross on November 28, 1926, in Independence, KS. She was the youngest of seven children. She married Pfc John E. Eikenberry on August 18, 1945, and they had five children together.
Dorothea worked with her husband John in his trucking business for many years. She loved people and loved helping those less fortunate than herself. She worked with developmentally challenged children at a school in Liberal, KS and later at KNI in Topeka, KS. Dorothea served on the board of ICare and worked in the food pantry. She was a faithful woman of God teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School in the churches where she worshiped. She was most recently a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband, John, both of her parents, all of her brothers and sisters and a great-grand-daughter. She is survived by her sons E. Dean (Patty) Eikenberry of St. Joseph, MO and Thomas "Tom" W. Eikenberry of Liberal, KS and her daughters Patsy L. Marincic (Mike) of North Royalton, OH, E. Lynne Boone (Tom) of Albuquerque, NM, and Sharon K. Eikenberry-Deary (Lawrence) of Jacksonville, FL, ten grandchildren and fifteen teen great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Highland Park United Methodist Church at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 26th where the family will greet friends from 9:00 am until service time. Inurnment will take place at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
