Dorothy F. Farrell, 87, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2007 at Brewster Place in Topeka. She was born on November 4, 1919 in Valley Falls, the daughter of Raymond J. and Helen Smith Haslett. She graduated from Topeka High School. Dorothy had lived in South Dakota from 1956 before returning to Topeka in 1986 where she had resided since. She was a sales consultant for AFLAC before retiring in 1984. She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Dorothy married Jack Gately on February 24, 1939. They were divorced. Dorothy married Max J. Farrell on April 28, 1956 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1998. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Horner. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Alley of Maplewood, MN, Jackie Comstock of Jacksonville, FL, one son, Joseph P. Farrell of Topeka, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one brother, Les Haslett and wife, Virginia of Topeka, one sister-in-law, Virginia Haslett of Arizona and close personal friend, Jim Foster of Topeka. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Burial will follow. Dorothy will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The casket will remain closed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the KSU Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, KS 66506 or the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 S.E. Michigan Ave., Topeka, KS 66605. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Brewster Place and Heart of America Hospice Care.
