Dorothy Helms Flickinger, 93, died Sunday June 29, 2008 at Aldersgate Village. She was born Feb. 19, 1915, in Spring Creek, Kansas, to Ure and Hattie Helms. She was one of five children.
Dorothy graduated from Rosalia High School in 1933 and attended Butler County Community College in El Dorado. She was an avid bridge player and sports enthusiast. She loved to garden, bake and entertain friends and loved ones. Her gentle caregiving through the years extended to family, friends, the community, and family pets.
She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Topeka.
She married Earl Dan Flickinger in El Dorado on December 6, 1936. He preceded her in death in 2002. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Jan and John Benson, Carolyn and Dr. Paul Rebek all from Topeka and Shelley and Dave Hickman, Tecumseh, Michigan. Six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Cremation is planned. A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 5.
