Dorothy Doreen Harris, 80, Topeka, went to sleep in the arms of Jesus on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2003 at Aldersgate Village.
She was born Jan 31, 1923 in Topeka, the daughter of Michael George and Gladys Rook Heim.
Mrs. Harris worked for a while at the VA Hospital and later as a cook at Topeka Correctional Facility. She served as a Foster Grandparent at KNI for several years which was an important and meaningful part of her latter years.
One of Dorothy's dreams was to travel to the Holy Lands. This dream was realized in 1995 before she became ill.
She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church.
She married Mickey R. Harris on July 4, 1941 in Kimball, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1988.
She now enjoys her eternal home with her Savior and loved ones who have gone before her.
She leaves behind a legacy of two daughters, Roxie Watts and Kim Taylor, both of Topeka; five grandchildren, David, Renee, Lonnie, Floyd, Jr. Watts and Tye Robertson, all of Topeka; four great-grandchildren, Kelsea and Erin Watts, Mariah Robertson and Chris Ashmore all of Topeka; three sisters, Mildred Golder, Lorraine Bleeck of Topeka and Lavonne Wallon, Cicero, IL; brother, John Robert Heim, Topeka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday at Assumption Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Harris will lie in state after noon Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel where the family will receive friends after 2 pm. A parish rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of America Hospice or to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.
