Dorothy Lee Stephens, 93, of Topeka, died Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Plaza West Care Center. She was born May 27, 1923, in Pine Knot, Kentucky, to Lou V. Stephens and Army Sgt. Robert L. Brown. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Manuel High.
Dorothy was a professional dancer and model until retiring due to illness. She then settled in Miami, Florida until 2006, when she moved to Topeka to be near family.
She loved to draw, paint, read and play piano. Also, she had a special place in her heart for animals and the Lord.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Talisa J. McClain of Topeka; grandchildren, Stephanie (John) Hughes and their children, Taylor (Cody) McKaig, Talisa and Tateum Hughes of Topeka, Greg (Lisa) Wright and their children, Harper and Hunter Wright of Overland Park, Kansas; niece, Janet (Ron) Padue of San Antonio, Texas; nephew, Dr. Robert Stephens of Parkville, Missouri and sister-in-law, Jane Stephens of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, S.K. Stephens and son-in-law, Roy R. McClain.
The family wishes to express special appreciation to the staff of Plaza West and Grace Hospice for their excellent care and devotion.
Dorothy was cremated per her wishes, and private family services will be held at a later date.
