Dorothy Lee Morgan, 98, passed away Friday, May 25, 2007 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor.
She was born March 12, 1909 in Cherokee, the oldest child of Le Roy and Agnes (Gillhouse) Bergman. She attended Coffeyville public schools and graduated from Coffeyville Junior College in 1928. She obtained a bachelor's degree in education from Pittsburg State University in 1933, and a master's degree from Denver University in 1960.
She was married to Cleon J. Morgan in 1932.
She taught school in several southwestern Kansas towns in the 1930's and in the Topeka public schools in the 1940' s and 50's. In 1956, she and Cleon moved to Denver, Colorado where she continued to teach until retiring in 1979.
She was active in the American Association of University Women, the Presbyterian Church and the Kansas Author's Club. Her poetry and articles were published in several magazines including Business Education World, Reader's Digest, Outwhitting Handicaps, National Poetry Anthology for Teachers and Librarians, and Disabled American Veteran's magazine.
She was preceded in death by Cleon in 1994. Mrs. Morgan is survived by her son, C.J. Morgan II, and his wife Donna; and one granddaughter, Lisa Lane Schroder; and two great grandchildren, Ky and Ceeja Schroder, all of Topeka.
Memorial services will be held at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 10:30 a.m.
