Dorothy Riggs

Dorothy Riggs died May 9, 2010, at the age of 82. She was born in Topeka May 3, 1928, the daughter of Ralph W. and Freda Johnson Thoroman. She attended Topeka schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1946. She lived in Topeka most of her life, and worked there until her retirement.

She married Ross R. Riggs in the Topeka Free Methodist Church on August 31, 1947. After her husband's death in 2008, Dorothy moved to Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, where she actively pursued her hobbies of artwork, walking, and her lifetime love of gardening.

Survivors include a son, Rick Riggs; his wife, Ann Perrin Riggs; Dorothy's "honorary" daughter, Penny Chiles, her daughter-in-law's sister; and several cousins.

Interment followed a private graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery. As a tribute to her love of dogs, memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 NW Rochester Road, Topeka, 66617.
