Dorothy Mary White "Toad", 92, of Topeka, went to meet her Lord on Sunday, November 23, 2008, at Presbyterian Manor.
Dorothy was born in Hiawatha, KS on August 6, 1916, the daughter of Charles Albert and Gertrude (Hixon) Wilson.
She attended schools in Hiawatha and graduated from Lawrence High School.
Dorothy married Harold Edward White in Lawrence, KS on January 31, 1937. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1993. They celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Mrs. White worked for Hallmark Card Company and Memorial Hospital where she retired after 20 years of service as Director of the Out Patient Department.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Jerry (Carole) White of Topeka and Ed (Joyce) White of Tecumseh; four grandchildren: Debra (Randy) Sitorius, Terri (Rob) Neiswender, Julie (Steve) Brookhart, Dustin White; eight great-grandchildren and one niece, Nancy (Ron) Cool of Arnold, NE.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Ilene "Happy" Burchett and Laveta "Tootsie" Wright.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Avenue. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Dorothy will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. today where a visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
