Douglas Gail Shannon, 52, Berryton, died Thursday, Oct. 11 at his home of natural causes.
He was born Oct. 1, 1955 in Junction City, the son of Raymond and Wanda Dockweiler Shannon. He had lived in Topeka most of his life.
Doug was employed at Kansas Neurological Institute and later for over 20 years at the Topeka Police Department before retiring. Following his retirement, he was self-employed.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police and ABATE. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going to races and auctions, and was devoted to his family and friends. He was first to offer help to anyone who needed it.
He was selflessly devoted to his wife, Donna, who preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 2006.
Survivors include two sons, Josh and Brandon and daughter, Ellen; his parents, Raymond and Wanda Shannon of Iola; four sisters, Susan Shannon of Topeka, Joyce (Dan) Warren of Topeka, Judy (Tim) Baker of Iola and Peggy Houdashelt of Dawsonville, GA, and a brother, Pat Shannon of Iola; a granddaughter, Evelyn Grace; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Foster Cemetery, Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made to an educational trust fund for Doug's children and sent in care of Newcomer Family Funeral Home, 4020 SW 6th Ave, Topeka 66606.
