Douglas Peck Eberly, 70, Topeka, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2009 at Stormont Vail Regional Medical Center.
Doug was born September 16, 1939 in Sylvan Grove, the son of Scott and Wilda (Peck) Dillet. He graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Washburn University on a baseball scholarship, graduating in 1963.
He worked for the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C., and Fleming Foods in Topeka. He worked for Nationwide Papers 27 years, retiring in 2003 as General Division Manager in Topeka.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was active in Upwards Basketball, coached American Legion Baseball and was involved with Junior Achievement.
Doug married Donna Cowan on September 6, 1969 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include son, Jason Eberly, Kansas City, MO; daughter, Leslie (Sean) Carter, Topeka; granddaughters, Madeline Kate and Ella Grace Carter; brother, Robert (Carol) Eberly, Brea, CA; aunts, Ivis Meitler, Salina, Vera Meyer, Sylvan Grove; and uncle, Wendell Peck, Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mary Alice Shook.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at First Baptist Church, 3033 SW MacVicar. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Doug will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
