Dr. Richard Dale "Dick" Davis, 75, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010, at his home.
Dick was born in Denver, Colorado, on August 7, 1935, the son of Harry and Effa Davis. He attended schools in Atwood and Boulder, CO. Dick earned his BS degree at Colorado State University. Dick served in the United States Army, and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood Mo.
He received both his Master's Degree and PhD from Kansas State University.
Dick was an antique dealer at Wheatland Antique Mall for 26 years. He was a retired real estate associate with Countrywide Realty.
He had many organizational ties. Dick was an Eagle Scout and a long time scout leader. Dick was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Lawrence, a longtime member of the Methodist Church, a charter member of Berryton Kiwanis, Past Club President and District Lt. Governor of Kiwanis International, and member of the Prairie land Depression Era Glass Club. He was Past President of the Shawnee County Fair board, served on the extension council and was a 4-H leader. He was a well known recruiter for blood drives, rewarding participants by serving potatoes, corn beef and cabbage.
Dick was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and gardening. He collected antiques, and especially enjoyed classical music.
Dick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Thyra of the home; children, Rolan Davis and his wife Kristen Schweitzer, Kevin Davis and his wife Rae Anne, his grandchildren, Kenzie, Jackson, Lincoln Patrick, Keaton, Kellyn, and his Honduran sons; Roman Carranza, Emilio Castro, and Milovan Paz. He is also survived by his sister-in law, Clede Garinger, and brother-in-law, Jay Krauss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Kelsey Schweitzer Davis, and brother-in-law, Dale Garinger.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Rd, Berryton, KS, 66409. Interment will take place Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Atwood Cemetery, Atwood, KS. There will be no repose or family visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Berryton Kiwanis Foundation, Berryton United Methodist Church, or Midland Hospice Care, Topeka.
