A man who lived an exceptional life, Dr. Stanley Dennis, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, in Topeka, KS.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Deborah Vernon (Jerry),(extended family)Chele Forman Kuhn (Mike); sons, Edward Forman (Amy), Mike Forman (Tammy); sister, Margaret Ryan, Sydney, Australia; son-in-law, James Hostetter; daughter-in-law, Pat Richards; grandchildren: Mathew Hostetter (Helen), Camille Hostetter, DDS (Darrell Glass), Katherine Sosna (Kyle), William Dennis (Jessica), Zachary Dennis, Monique Liesmann (Keith), Brittany Schuh (Dustin), Bridget Watt (Tom), Whitney Williams, Brianne Ray (Matt), Jessy Forman (G.T. Coe), Becca Forman, Edward Forman, III, Hunter Esquibel Forman; and great grandchildren: Madison, Mallory and Max Hostetter, Peyten, Alexander, Zoe Liesmann, Greysen Schuh, and Kennedy Ray. He was predeceased by his wife, Naldi; eldest daughter, Morgan Hostetter, MD; and son, Gregory Dennis, JD.

Stanley was born in Australia. At 17, he enlisted in the Australian Army during World War II and was stationed in New Guinea. After discharge, he obtained his Veterinary degree (BVSc ) and PhD from the University of Sydney. He worked for seven years in dairy practice and three years as senior veterinary pathologist in the Animal Health and Diagnostic Laboratory in Western Australia. Dr. Dennis earned Fellowships in the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (FRCVS), the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) in England, and from the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (FACVSc). He is a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenology (DACT) and he served as its President from 1990 to 1991 and Head of its Examination Committee.

Dr. Dennis was Professor and Head of the Department of Veterinary Pathology at Kansas State University. He helped establish and administer the Veterinary Medical College at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria. After 26 years at Kansas State, Dr. Dennis served as Founding Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, at the University of West Indies in Trinidad, and as Dean at Ross University in St. Kitts, British West Indies. He left retirement for the third time when he became Dean at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the American University of Antigua for 2 years.

In 2001, Dr. Dennis was awarded a Member of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for meritorious contributions to international veterinary medicine as Dean of Ross University in St. Kitts & Nevis, British West Indies.

He was directly involved in the establishment of four international Veterinary Medical schools. As an internationally-recognized researcher in Reproductive Pathology and pregnancy wastage in domestic animals, he published more than 242 scientific papers and oversaw the academic programs of 34 doctoral and three master degree candidates.

Though Dr. Dennis had a diverse and remarkable life in Veterinary Medicine spanning six decades in many countries, he was a simple man who loved helping others. His supportive influence inspired many young veterinarians to pursue careers in Pathology and Theriogenology.

Stan belonged to the Knights of Columbus Christ the King Council 8411, Optimist Club of Topeka and Suguna (Sydney University Graduates North America). He was President of Serra Club and past President of the American College of Theriogenology.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Church. Rosary at 5:30 pm by the Daughters of Isabella; 7:00 pm by Dr. Robert Conroy of the Knights of Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine or Christ the King Catholic Church and sent in care of the funeral home, Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66610.

Dr. Dennis was also proud to be the American College of Theriogenology's first president and a supporter of its charitable foundation, whose global mission is reproductive medicine education and research to ensure that future generations of animals continue to enrich our lives via service, companionship and food production.
