Dr. Wendell Irving Wyatt, 82, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017.
He was born September 9, 1934, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Wendell and Reva (Low) Wyatt.
Wendell was a 1956 graduate of Fort Hays State College and a 1960 graduate of the University of Kansas Medical School.
Wendell spent 14 years in the Air Force as a Flight Surgeon. He led a team of doctors who trained astronauts on how to take care of themselves and wrote the medical book for the Sky Lab. He was CEO of Clinics of North Texas for 28 years, with a specialty in internal medicine. He resided in Wichita Falls, Texas, from 1974-2003. Wendell was one of the original founders of The Towner Society of the American Academy of Physicians Assistants. He also established the clinical medicine portion of the program which included 17 different disciplines of medicine and taught neurology.
Wendell was married to Carolyn Y. Chaska. She preceded him in death in 2004. He then married Joan James. She survives.
Other survivors include son, Wendell Dean Wyatt of San Diego, California; sister, Arliss (John) Hartmann of Topeka, Kansas; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-children, Rhonda (Matthew) Burns, Craig Pruett and Greg (Rachele) Pruett; ten step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and Carolyn, he was preceded in death by daughter, Tracey Wyatt; and son, Mark Wyatt.
Wendell was cremated and services will be held at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services and inurnment will be in the Stockton City Cemetery in Stockton, Kansas, over Memorial Day weekend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st Street, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Dove Cremation & Funeral Service in Topeka, Kansas, is assisting the family.
