Duane "Chris" Christman, 75, of Topeka, passed away on April 21, 2010. He was born Oct. 22, 1934, in Waldo, KS the son of Earl J. and Katherine Christman. Duane was a graduate of Topeka High School later joining the United States Army, serving in Korea. After his service in the military, he went into business for himself, starting Chris's Recreation, later becoming Pla-zur Recreation at 826 N. Kansas in 1972. On Nov. 1, 1959, Duane married Corine Sanford, in Topeka, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She survives. Duane was an avid water skier and member of the Shawnee Boat & Ski Club from its beginnings. He was a master craftsman at billiard repair and very accomplished at the game of billiards. Duane was a member of the American Legion Capitol Post #1, American Waterski Association, and Faith Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by three children, Dora K., Elaina Marie, and Bruce Allen; brother, Claude Christman; and sister, Shirley Turner.
Survivors include his wife Corine; daughter, Pennie Christman; son, Doug (Kathi) Christman; grandchildren, Brooke (Jarrod) Carney, Chelsa Mae Christman; great grandchild, Logan Douglas Michael Carney; brother, Don (Diana) Christman; and sister, Vickie (Bob) McMurdo, all of Topeka.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 25, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave., Topeka, KS 66605.
