Duane Tegethoff, 79, Topeka, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014 at a local hospital.
Duane was born November 14, 1934 in Washington, Kansas, the son of Bernard and Naomi (Windhorst) Tegethoff. He graduated from Washington High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-58.
He was employed as a police officer for the city of Topeka for 35 years, retiring at the rank of Captain in the patrol division in 1993.
Duane was a member of Trinity Presbyterian church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a former board member of the Topeka Police Credit Union.
Duane married Glenda Funke on May 27, 1956 in Washington. She survives. Other survivors include their children: Lisa (David) Holmes, Garnett, Brent Tegethoff, Ft. Scott, Carla Tegethoff, Topeka, Lesli Ashburn, Topeka; grandchildren, Denise Luedke, Korie Ann and Jacob Ashburn; great-grandson, Lathan Woodson; brothers, Richard Tegethoff, Vernon Tegethoff, both of Washington; and sister, Ileen Lummus, Arroyo Grande, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Loreen Herrmann.
Duane will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, after noon on Monday, June 2, 2014 and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Graveside inurnment services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Mount Hope Cemetery.
